Review Updates

Service Project

Every year, WACUBO participates in a Service Project in connection with the Annual Conference. This year, we ask that you help us support the Davis Middle School Robotics Team in Compton, California. The young, award-winning Robotics Team is the only middle school team in Compton to compete against other high school teams. In their second year competing, they placed 21 of 40 teams in the Southern California leagues, despite being a novice team.

Two Opportunities to Support and Win

  • All members who make a purchase from the Amazon Wishlist are automatically entered into an opportunity drawing to win ONE of THREE original, Disney drawings by Disney Parks Artist and Historian Stacia Martin!
  • Bring a college t-shirt/sweatshirt, pennant or other swag to the Service Project Booth onsite at the Conference for additional chances to win the Disney drawings!

WACUBO Sustainability

WACUBO is living its values of environmental sustainability and social enterprise in planning the 2024 annual conference.

Beginning with conference check-in, reusable water bottles will be given out upon request to encourage resource conservation. Water stations to fill reusable bottles will be provided by Sustain LA. A certified women-owned and small business, Sustain LA combines best practices and materials for an integrated approach to zero-waste events and living.

WACUBO strives to work with Vendors that share our sustainability values. Marketing products for the WACUBO annual conference were purchased from 4 Imprint, with Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives featuring products that are B Corporation certified and meet standards of the Fair Labor Association. This included the 2024 travel pouches made from 100% recycled materials and the 2024 conference tote made from 100% recycled material ( 80% recycled cotton and 20% recycled polyester).

Project Grow was selected as the recipient of a donation in lieu of gifts to WACUBO conference speakers. With the mission to grow healthy ecosystems, Project Grow offers experiential education programs focusing on the complex environmental disturbances along the urban coast in Orange County, California. Participants increase their ecological knowledge to actively assist the growth of healthy ecosystems and develop a deeper sense of connection to the community in which they live.

Tips for Attending a WACUBO Conference

✮ Plan which sessions you want to attend in advance. Check out the schedule on the website or download the app and make a note of which sessions or presenters you especially want to see.

✮ Wear comfortable shoes. You might find that you do a surprising amount of walking at a WACUBO conference. Between getting from your hotel to the conference venue, walking between sessions, and going out in the evening for dinner or social events, you may well be on your feet all day. So make sure you wear shoes that are comfortable and won't cause you pain.

✮ Dress in layers. Business casual is appropriate for all WACUBO conferences and any related events, except the Opening Night event, which is casual. We do recommend that you dress in layers as session rooms can vary in temperature and you will be walking in between buildings as well. Be sure to check the weather before you pack!

✮ Attend the social events. Social events, such as receptions or Business Partner events, are an important part of the conference experience as they give you a chance to talk with the other attendees and Business Partners in a more informal setting. So do make an effort to attend at least some of the social events as well as education sessions.

✮ Stay in touch. As we all know, conferences are a great way to connect with our counterparts at other universities or friends we haven't seen in a long time, but don't let that contact end at the conference. We encourage you to stay in touch, share ideas, and compare challenges to get the most out of the conference.
